teaching blending
alphabetic principle is the awareness that letters represent the sounds in words and the awareness that when sounds are blended together it is possible to read words. it’s an important skill that fits between phonological awareness and phonics, and all too often is not given appropriate attention. students need to be taught to look at a letter and immediately associate a sound or sounds with it. additionally students need to be able to blend the sounds together to read a whole word. our teaching blending products teach students how to transition from reading words sound-by-sound to reading whole words blended.
